Union Home Minister visits Havelock; interacts with PRI members
Port Blair, Apr 8: Hon’ble Union Home Minister, Shri
Rajnath Singh visited Havelock Island this morning. He was accompanied by
Hon’ble Lt. Governor, A&N Islands,
Prof. Jagdish Mukhi, Chief Secretary, A&N Administration, Shri Anindo
Majumdar IAS and other senior officers of the Ministry of Home Affairs and
A&N Administration.
On arrival at Havelock Helipad, Hon’ble Home Minister
was received by the Adhyaskh, Zilla Parishad, South Andaman, Shri Jaydeep Kumar
Dey, PBMC, Chairperson, Shri B. Eswar Rao, Pradhan Havelock, Shri Ajit Kumar
Mandal, Pramukh, Shri Apurva Chandra Roy and PRI Members.
Soon after arrival at Havelock, Hon’ble Home Minister visited Radhanagar beach where he was greeted by the
tourists, who were ecstatic to meet him. He also interacted with them while
enjoying the scenic beauty of the beach. Shri Singh appreciated the beautiful
ambience of Radhanagar beach besides maintenance of cleanliness and security of
tourists. Hon’ble Home Minister also visited
the recently inaugurated Sagarika Govt. Emporium at Radhanagar beach and
evinced keen interest in the beautiful handicrafts on display. The staff of
Sagarika Emporium also presented a memento to the Home Minister.
At Dolphin Resort, Hon’ble Home Minister held a brief
interaction with the PRI members.
Addressing them, Hon’ble Home Minister
said, under the leadership of Hon’ble
Lt. Governor, A&N Islands, Prof. Jagdish Mukhi, development of
A&N Islands is taking place at a fast pace. Hon’ble Home Minister also
enquired about opening of ‘Jan Dhan’ Accounts and implementation of ‘Pradhan
Mantri Ujjwala Yojana’ at Havelock.
Speaking on the occasion, Hon’ble Lt. Governor said, the Administration
welcomes people to come and highlight their grievances. He urged the residents of Havelock to make
use of the Public Meetings being held at Raj Niwas every Tuesday, where they
can meet Hon’ble Lt. Governor and present their issues for redressal. He also
assured to look into the issues
highlighted in the memorandum, submitted by the Pradhan and take necessary
steps.
On the way back to Port Blair, Hon’ble Home Minister visited the Barren Island. The
Island, located 137 km north east of Port Blair, is India’s only active volcano.
It was recently in news when researchers from the Goa based National Institute
of Oceanography (NIO) reported the volcano to be active and spewing lava and
smoke.
After returning to Port Blair in
the day, Hon’ble Home Minister also met
representatives of different sections of civil society at Raj Niwas. On
completion of his tour, Hon’ble Union
Home Minister, Shri Rajnath Singh left for New Delhi in the afternoon. He was
accorded a befitting send off by Hon’ble Lt. Governor, A&N Islands, Prof.
Jagdish Mukhi, Hon’ble Member of
Parliament, Shri Bishnu Pada Ray, Chief Secretary, A&N Administration, Shri
Anindo MajumdarIAS and other senior officers of the Administration. (thanking D
